TRAFFIC DIVISION OF THE DISTRICT COURT

Traffic Citations
Civil Infraction traffic tickets are processed by the Traffic Division. Respondents have 10 calendar days to contact the Court and 19 calendar days from the date of the ticket to pay or request a hearing. Failure to contact the Court can result in additional fees being assessed and issuance of a suspension of driving privileges through the Secretary of State.

Respondents may request an Informal Hearing with the Magistrate or a Formal Hearing before the Judge by signing the back of the ticket, include a phone number and your correct mailing address, and bringing the ticket to the District Court, or mailing it in.

Informal Hearings are always held on Monday afternoon before the Magistrate, where the citing officer and respondent are present.

Formal Hearings are typically held on Thursday morning or afternoon before the Judge, where the citing officer, Prosecuting Attorney, and the respondent (and retained counsel) may be present.
